The Role
Blugibbon is supporting applications for an ICU Registrar / Senior Registrar position at North West Regional Hospital in Tasmania.
This is a fixed-term full-time shift work role, working up to 76 hours per fortnight. The appointment is available from as soon as possible until 6 February 2028, with hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
The ICU is an 8-bed unit led by an Intensivist who is a Fellow of the College of Intensive Care Medicine. Clinical care is provided by fully qualified Intensivists, with 24/7 on-call support.
The unit provides advanced ICU therapies including mechanical ventilation, continuous renal replacement therapy, haemodynamic monitoring, echocardiography, ultrasound-guided procedures, bronchoscopy and other intensive care treatments.
Training and Support
The ICU is accredited by the College of Intensive Care Medicine for Foundation and Rural training in Intensive Care Medicine.
The unit is also approved to train CICM candidates under Commonwealth-funded IRTP and TMSDT programs.
You will receive 10 hours of paid, protected training time per fortnight, pro rata. Teaching support includes weekly ICU teaching, weekly CICM First Part Examination preparation sessions, access to learning resources and regular specialist supervision.
ICU registrars are also welcome to attend the BASIC course, which is run twice per year.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
• Provide clinical care to patients within the Intensive Care Unit.
• Work under the supervision of experienced Intensive Care specialists.
• Participate in shift work and contribute to safe, high-quality ICU service delivery.
• Use advanced monitoring and ICU therapies as part of a supervised clinical team.
• Take part in teaching, training and professional development activities.
• Support junior medical staff where appropriate to your level of experience.

North West Regional Hospital is a 160-bed acute care facility located on the North West Coast of Tasmania.
The hospital is fully accredited by the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards and is an accredited teaching hospital with the University of Tasmania Rural Clinical School.
The hospital provides a contemporary, well-equipped work environment with a focus on professional development, supervision and team-based care.

Salary and Benefits

Eligibility
Applicants must be eligible for general or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
