Locum Location - Gosford & Wyong, NSW

Our locum doctor in Gosford and Wyong: Vera, shared with you her experience and good addresses there.

TELL US ABOUT THE SETUP OF THE HOSPITAL AND SUPPORT FOR A LOCUM DOCTOR IN GOSFORD & WYONG?

The team at Gosford & Wyong Hospital is large and competent. Friendly. Great clinical cases in a busy shop. Everyone was very approachable and I was made welcome.
Gosford Hospital is only 35min far from Wyong Hospital.   Gosford is a public hospital with 484 beds (pretty big), Wyong is a bit smaller 300 beds.

WHAT DOES THE TRAVEL AND ACCOMMODATION LOOK LIKE FOR A LOCUM DOCTOR IN GOSFORD & WYONG?

I drove up from Sydney and came home between batches of shifts, so easy logistics from that point of view. For one shift or longer placement, it’s a good location, 1.5 hr maximum from Sydney CBD. You can even take the train from Central to Gosford.   I stayed at a motel at the Entrance right next to a gorgeous ocean pool. I highly recommend the Entrance as a base for both places. 25 min from Wyong Hospital and 33 min from Gosford.

ANY LOCALS’ INSIDE INFORMATION TO SHARE?

The ocean pool at the Entrance was fabulous. Also, the restaurant at the surf club is there.

The Central Coast is a beautiful region. Really easy to access from Sydney or Newcastle. There are so many things to do around: surfing, diving, golf, walking, the list is long. Terrigal, Avoca, or Copacabana are really cute cities to visit, have a drink, or do your shopping.

Try the really cute
Bamboo Buddha Cafe during the weekend, or go and visit.

There is even a good winery to visit:  Firescreek .

WOULD YOU GO BACK TO GOSFORD & WYONG AS A LOCUM DOCTOR?

Yes! I have long-term work commitments now, but would recommend it to anyone looking for an ED role in the area.

ο»Ώ For experienced GP Emergency doctors and rural locums, Norfolk Island is one of the most remote and unusual medical placements available in Australia. This is not a typical locum role. It is a high responsibility environment that requires confidence, resilience, and a realistic understanding of what isolated medicine involves. At Blugibbon, we believe doctors deserve clear, accurate information before committing to remote or offshore locum work. The aim is always to match the right doctor to the right environment. What follows is a grounded overview of GP Emergency work on Norfolk Island, based on firsthand experience during a particularly busy Christmas and New Year period.
