ABOUT THE ED TEAM IN HORSHAM

The hospital is Wimmera Base Hospital. The local ED team is incredibly experienced and supportive. That exists in a great, safe place to work.WHAT IS THE SETUP LIKE?
- It is a referring hospital for surrounding smaller satellite bush nursing centres/NH/GP run centres
- There are long-term General Surgeons, Paediatricians and O&G Consultants on-site and on-call
- An ICU exists but no Intensivist / ICU Consultant on-site and patients are managed by local teams or transferred to a Melbourne tertiary hospital as needed.
- The Orthopaedic Surgeon is a phone call away, rotating around several sites but if it cannot be covered here then Ballarat Base Hospital take care of it
- Plastic Surgery cover is always on-call at Warrnambool Base Hospital, particularly for hand trauma
- Urology and ENT Surgery goes to Ballarat who are happy to take calls and look at imaging
- Multi-trauma are usually transferred out but here is a good capacity to stabilise at Horsham prior to transfer
- Mental Health team workers are on-site to see patients with a Visiting Psychiatrist attending and there is no Mental Health Inpatient Unit (MHIU), the nearest are at Ballarat, Mildura or Warrnambool
- There is a Security team on-site
