Here are some insights and information from our locum doctors in Horsham. Everything you need to know about the location and what it looks like to be a locum doctor in rural Victoria.
The hospital is Wimmera Base Hospital. The local ED team is incredibly experienced and supportive. That exists in a great, safe place to work.
Registrars and Locums are provided with accommodation, sometimes it can be a motel if short-term but there are lots of good places to eat locally.
It is a 4 hours drive from Melbourne, and we recommend to watch out for kangaroos at dawn/dusk and at night!
A broad range of places to eat but do not leave your evening meal too late unless you want Maccas! Thai Basil takeaway is superb. You can also find amazing shops like Velvet Ark (great decorations ideas) or Imeldas (clothes and shoes)
There is a great swimming pool, YMCA and other gym facilities, as well as lovely walks locally along the river. The Grampians and Arapiles are close if you like rock climbing (apparently over 4000 different rock climbing routes) or bushwalking/camping. You can also visit Little Desert (30 minutes North). A small oasis in the middle of the desert.
We believe it is a great place to work, a real “hidden gem”.
We acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the traditional custodians of our land – Australia. The Gadigal of the Eora Nation are the traditional custodians of this place we now call Sydney.
