Our locum doctor in Moruya gives you tips and insights.
It is a small department, in Moruya Hospital NSW, with a busy emergency load. Most of the time you are alone with some FACEMs cover with some overlapping shifts but otherwise, it is solo ED.
There is a good supportive team of staff and receptionist to help you on arrival. A GP VMO works in the medical wards, and O&G and Surgical Consultants in the hospital.
There are no other specialty services as the main referral centers are Bega and Canberra.
It is a beautiful area and most of the time there is good accommodation for locum doctors.
Rex Airlines operations flights from Sydney to Moruya and if you get the direct flight it is 50 minutes. Sometimes it is via Merimbula and that can be 90 minutes, or you can fly to Canberra and then drive which will take less than two hours.
It is a small town so there are a few good eat-outs and cafes, like Blue Heron Cafe or Les Gourmandises French Bakery. Having a Woolworths and IGA in the town helps but if you want more options head to Batemans Bay 15 minutes drive away.
There are fantastic beaches, river and walking tracks and outdoor activities. I guarantee a locum doctor will love it.
It is also a good place for skydiving and learning to fly, as many locums did their flying lessons while doing the job and got their pilot licence!New Paragraph
