About the Role
Launceston General Hospital is seeking a Paediatric Staff Specialist to join its paediatric service on a fixed-term part-time basis.
The department includes a 34-bed General Paediatric ward, a 12-bed Level 2 neonatal nursery, paediatric outpatient services, and a new Paediatric short stay unit. The unit is staffed 24 hours a day by registrars and HMO staff, with consultant oversight during working hours and overnight on-call cover.
The current medical team includes registrars, HMOs, a Senior Registrar, and Paediatric Consultants. The service also has an active education program and is accredited by RACP for Advanced Training in General Paediatrics with a Perinatal Component, Community/Developmental Paediatrics, and rural rotations.
Key Responsibilities
You will provide specialist paediatric care across public hospital inpatient and outpatient settings.
Responsibilities include:
• Providing specialist diagnosis, treatment, and care for paediatric patients
• Participating in the out-of-hours on-call roster
• Providing consultative support to other specialist units
• Supervising and teaching junior medical staff and medical students
• Supporting undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programs
• Maintaining timely and accurate clinical records
• Participating in quality improvement activities
• Contributing to approved clinical research where required

Eligibility
Applicants will need:
• Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty or equivalent
• Sound knowledge of current Paediatric specialty practice
• Recent experience in an acute hospital setting
• Ability to provide specialist services within allocated clinical privileges
UK and Irish-trained Paediatricians may be considered subject to their training, specialist assessment outcome, and eligibility for Australian medical registration.
