Blugibbon is recruiting for permanent Staff Specialists in Emergency Medicine to join a well-supported Emergency Medicine service on Tasmania’s North West Coast.
This is an excellent opportunity for ED Consultants, FACEMs, or Rural Generalists with advanced Emergency Medicine skills, looking for a permanent role in a regional Australian setting with strong clinical scope, flexible rostering, and a genuinely balanced lifestyle.
The department provides Emergency Medicine services across North West Regional Hospital and Mersey Community Hospital, with each Emergency Department seeing approximately 30,000 presentations per year. The region services a population of around 116,000 people.
The Role
You will join a small, inclusive group of Emergency Medicine specialists working across two hospital sites approximately 50 km apart.
North West Regional Hospital is the regional trauma centre and provides inpatient general medicine, general surgery, orthopaedics, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, ICU and mental health services. Mersey Community Hospital is a subacute hospital with limited general medicine inpatient services and an inpatient rehabilitation unit. Both Emergency Departments have access to 24-hour pathology and 24-hour on-call radiology.
The service is accredited by ACEM for 24 months of Emergency Medicine training, and is also accredited for RACGP and ACRRM advanced skills training in Emergency Medicine. Both departments are also accredited for ACEM Associateship Emergency Medicine Training Programs.

What You’ll Be Doing
You will provide senior clinical care within the Emergency Department, support junior medical staff, contribute to supervision and teaching, and participate in the delivery of high-quality emergency care across the North West region.
There is also scope to develop a professional portfolio aligned with your interests. Current specialist interests within the department include toxicology, POCUS, paediatric emergency medicine, disaster medicine, humanitarian medicine, clinical research, palliative care, voluntary assisted dying, medical education and administration.
The department is also a statewide hub for the EMET program, with opportunities to contribute to outreach education in more remote parts of North West Tasmania, including King Island and Queenstown.
Salary and Benefits
The package includes:
• Base salary from AUD $216,300 to $296,640
• 11.5% employer superannuation contribution
• North West Allowance in lieu of private practice of 35% pro rata
• North West Recruitment and Retention Allowance of 20% pro rata
• Professional Development Allowance of up to AUD $16,480 per annum pro rata
• Fully maintained vehicle or allowance in lieu up to AUD $28,389 per annum pro rata
