LOCUM DOCTOR IN ROCKHAMPTON

By our Locum doctor in Rockhampton: Dr Caoimhe.

WHAT IS THE TEAM LIKE?

The team were so welcoming and friendly at Rockhampton Base Hospital. A busy ED which services a large geographic area. Some of the wardsmen are also trained plaster technicians which is very handy to know!

TELL US ABOUT THE SETUP OF THE HOSPITAL AND SUPPORT FOR LOCUM DOCTOR IN ROCKHAMPTON?

Some specialties on site include ICU, Orthopaedics, Medicine and Surgery. Sub-specialist referrals go to Brisbane and this includes things like ENT, Ophthalmology and Plastics – meaning at times it may be necessary to arrange travel for these patients. Thankfully all my IT setup was organised on the first day along with EDIS training (Emergency Department Information System).

WHAT DOES THE TRAVEL AND ACCOMMODATION LOOK LIKE FOR A LOCUM DOCTOR IN ROCKHAMPTON?

The majority of accommodation is based onsite at the hospital. It is clean and just a two minute walk to work. Flight time for me was approximately one hour from Brisbane, and from Rockhampton Airport to my accommodation was just five minutes in a taxi.

ANY LOCALS INSIDE INFO TO SHARE? BEST SWIMMING SPOTS? LOOKOUTS? BIKE OR WALK TRAILS?

Yeppoon is a great coastal town 45 minutes from Rockhampton, from there you can take a trip to Keppel Islands, a place I definitely want to visit for snorkelling and island vibes.

TOWN AMENITIES? SHOPS, COFFEE TIPS FOR A LOCUM DOCTOR IN ROCKHAMPTON?

Woolworths is a 20-30 minute walk and a five minute taxi from the accommodation. There are a few brunch spots in town, including  Coffee Society  and  Two Professors .

WOULD YOU GO BACK TO WORKING AS A LOCUM DOCTOR IN ROCKHAMPTON?

Yes I would go back, it is a well supported emergency department, there is a good variety of work and it is an easy commute from Brisbane.
