Visas & Australian PR

On the topic of Visas & Australian PR  - DID YOU KNOW?

1. For all Doctors we use the Temporary Skilled Shortage visa (Subclass 482) program.

2. Most Doctors transferring to us for locum work will already hold a 482 visa.

3. We can recruit Doctors directly from the UK and Ireland (and other countries), by supporting 482 nominations and visa.

4. The 482 visa can provide up to a four (4) year visa, with the duration of visa dependent on your personal and professional goals.

5. Eligibility for a Permanent Visa is dependent on you attaining General Registration with AHPRA, and subject to other eligibility requirements for independent or sponsored permanent pathways. We have supported permanent sponsored visas subject to eligibility.

6. If you hold a 482 visa, and come on board with BG we will arrange for the transfer of your existing 482. This is needed to fulfill our compliance requirements with our host hospitals. We just need your identity and immigration documents.

 7. If your 482 visa is due to expire, you should seek professional advice about further temporary and permanent visa pathways. Do not rely on word of mouth.

8. In our experience, Doctors do not have the time to 'self manage' visa applications. There are usually tight deadlines to work to in terms of locum placements. Self management usually means delays and simple mistakes.

8.1 We have seen doctors refused visas for overstating work experience, age restrictions, changes of employer / sponsor issues and have seen significant delays due to fulfilling AHPRA requirements or character and health issues.

9. A registered migration agent or immigration lawyer can advise on temporary and permanent visa pathways for you and your family, particularly with the medical occupation codes in mind.

10. The choice of medical occupation codes of RMO, general medical practitioner and emergency medical specialist are important in determining PR pathways.

11. You need to obtain police clearances from the proper authorities. Police clearance requirements for AHPRA are usually not acceptable for visa purposes.

12. At the moment. visa medicals can only be done after the visa is lodged - potentially adding delay.

13. We recommend and support you in obtaining professional assistance from an agent / lawyer skilled in medical migration, who ensures:

13.1 applications prepared efficiently;

13.2 applications prepared with the minimum of intervention of the doctor;

13.3 police clearance and health checks arranged.
