PAPERWORK YOU NEED
Before you even start thinking about where or when you want to work as a Locum Medical Registrar, we suggest you take some basic steps to get your documentation in order. Collect the following documents together
- Current CV (no gaps or at least explain them eg. travel, maternity leave etc)
- 3 Referee Contacts (name, email, mobile number)
- Medical Degree
- Medical Indemnity
- CPD documents (any certificates from the last few years)
- Police Check (within the last 3 years ideally)
- Working with Children Check (click here if you do not already have one to apply)
- Passport
- Drivers Licence
- Vaccinations (any if you have had in the past few years)
- Make copies of all the above documents & have them certified by a Justice of the Peace (FYI I am a JP for NSW!)
- Save all of the copies onto a USB or computer hard drive or cloud drive (eg. Google Drive, Dropbox) & keep the hard copies safe in a physical file

LOCATIONS YOU CAN WORK
Locum Medical Registrar Jobs are plentiful and based on our experience, (research and data from 2020) come up regularly in the following locations (this is not an exhaustive list):

- Queensland: Sunshine Coast (Caboolture), Central QLD (Rockhampton, Gladstone), Mackay, Hervey Bay, Cairns.
- Victoria: Shepparton, Mildura, Wodonga.
- Western Australia: Perth (Rockingham), Busselton, Bunbury, Kalgoorlie.
- Tasmania: Burnie, Launceston, Hobart.
- Northern Territory: Darwin, Katherine.
- Australian Capitol Territory: Canberra.
- South Australia: Mount Gambier.
RATES YOU CAN EARN
Depending on how rural, regional and remote, and how urgent the Locum Medical Registrar job is, this can range from $100/hr, to $180/hr worked.
TYPES OF PAY
The vast majority of the time as a Locum Medical Registrar you will be paid via PAYG. Usually on submittal of some paperwork and a weekly timesheet, sometimes paid direct by the hospital, others by a locum agency like Blugibbon.
YOUR WORK DUTIES
The clue is in the title when it comes to “General Medicine”.
But of course there are many variations of the Medicine specialities, that comes under the stewardship of the RACP – Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
And when it comes to locum work, a Medical Registrar can be useful in a number of different departments including Renal / Nephrology, Cardiology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Haematology and more.
When you work in Australia as a Locum Medical Registrar, you may be based in one or several of these departments. As well as being suitable to work in Wards roles, which there are equally as many as General Medicine.
