Australian WWCC & Police Checks Explained

When applying for locum jobs in Australia, Doctors are subject to a forest’s worth of paperwork, that Blugibbon is always on hand to tackle with you.

As part of this process there are some key checks and documentation that are absolutely mandatory.

These include a Working with Children Check (WWCC) and a Police Check or National Criminal Record Check (NCRC). The vast majority of health services will now not even accept applications without them.

Furthermore, as an example if you are locuming in Victoria and the Northern Territory but live in New South Wales, it is likely you may need to apply for multiple WWCCs.

To save you some time researching, here are the online links to start the application process:

Police Check / National Criminal Record Check (NCRC)

To obtain a police certificate, we recommend using https://www.nationalcrimecheck.com.au/

There are other options available to obtain a police certificate but NCC have a fully online application process and a fairly quick turnaround time costing around $50.

They issue a national police certificate which is accepted everywhere except NT (they have their own). Police Certificates are generally valid for 3 years however some hospitals request them more often.

The best locum doctors rarely come from job boards. They come from referrals. A colleague in the department. A registrar you worked nights with. A GP friend who keeps talking about wanting more flexibility. At Blugibbon, most of the doctors we work with were introduced to us by another doctor. And that makes sense. Medicine is a small world. Doctors trust other doctors. So when a friend says, "You should speak to these guys. They actually look after you." People listen. That is exactly why our doctor referral programme exists. Because great doctors know great doctors.
